About I Hear You Like Movies
I HeAR You LiKe MOviEs is a series of cinema-centric conversation salons dedicated to people who love and work in film. A variation on traditional Enlightenment-era salons, guests lounge in a casual, upscale atmosphere and discuss a pre-determined subject related to the industry. A hybrid between a party and a seminar, we designed it to be a unique social, educational, and networking experience.

The conversation is led by the salonnière (host) and special guests who are particularly knowledgable and accomplished in the featured topic. Special guests give a short multi-media presentation, telling a story of their experience. A few of our special guests have included the foley artist from BUMBLEBEE, the Showrunner from the ABC show STUMPTOWN, and the costume designer from WATCHMEN. Once the speaker finishes, other guests are free to not only ask questions but to share their own relevant experiences. Dialogue is encouraged. As are breaks for wine and charcuterie.

All salon guests are film industry professionals who have been carefully selected for each salon and are personally invited by a salonnière. Attention is made to achieve a balanced perspective in the conversation, with a robust mix of guests who are highly knowledgable in the salon topic and those who are interested but may not have expertise. We also aim for diversity in gender, age, ethnicity, and nationality.

We created this Los Angeles-based live event series because we're insatiably curious. As lifelong learners, we wanted to provide a safe and light-hearted forum where film industry professionals like us can fine-tune our taste, learn something new, and enjoy a support network of thoughtful, open-minded peers. And maybe, just maybe, make some new friends along the way.
We look forward to hearing what you have to say...

What is a salon?
A salon is “a gathering of people under the roof of a host, held partly to amuse and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation.”
Famous salons include Gertrude Stein’s Paris Saturday evening salon which was frequented by Picasso and Ernest Hemingway (and gloriously reimagined in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris) and the salon of the ever-mysterious Andy Warhol in the 60s.
